Oh my gosh!

Well, it happened again! I got bamboozled on Valentine's Day! Let me give some background. Last year, a beautiful bouquet of flowers arranged in a teacup were delivered to my door with a note signed "I love you. Doug." I was ecstatic and ran to the phone to thank him! He informed me that he had not sent them and the wind was knocked right out of me. I was so disappointed. I just knew that after all these years, he had decided to give in and get me flowers. I never did find out who sent them.

When I got up yesterday, I spent time in the living room reading scriptures, etc. until after Doug left for work. When I walked into the family room, there on the table were two red roses. Immediately, I got all excited, thinking he was making up for my disappointment last year. Again, I called him and asked him if he'd given them to me and this time the answer was "yes!" I thanked him profusely, arranged them in a vase and set them on the table. Then I walked to Marie Callenders and got him a pie as my gift to him! When he got home from work at lunchtime, he said he had to tell me the truth. He had found the flowers left in one of the rooms at the church that morning in seminary and brought them home. At least he didn't throw them away, I said to myself! He did think of me! At any rate, I was all disappointed - AGAIN!

No more! I'm done! I know he loves me because he tells me all the time. He shows it, too, just not in all of the romantic ways. So I'm going to stop looking for him to do something that just isn't in him to do. And I'm going to continue to look for all of the ways he does show his love. He's the best husband and I love him.

Oh Mom-- he does love you. We are just both hopeless romantics at heart. But you have the right attitude about it. Perspective is everything.

Is this a good time to mention that he sent me a Valentine's card? lol Granted it was anonymous and said "To my sweetheart. You are wonderful." Even though it was a joke, maybe this means he's getting on the right track?! Maybe next year he'll send one to you for real!!

Mom...it was still romantic!! No he didn't go out and buy flowers...but he found them and then thought of you... He could have thrown them away. It would be the same as if he had picked them out of your yard...it still took some thinking on his part and that is romantic, especially for Dad!! :)
